Reach – a national brand of UK Coaching, which focuses on raising the profile of women in coaching – has unveiled a new video to promote women who coach during Women’s Sport Week, 19-25 June 2017.
Titled: Supporting Women in Coaching, the video is set to inspire and encourage more women to think about getting into coaching.
The main routes of entry into coaching are through participation but with fewer women regularly participating in sport (31.9% of women as opposed to 40.5% of men), there are fewer women transitioning from playing into coaching, and therefore fewer role models for other women and girls to see coaching as an opportunity for them.
Reach believes that by supporting more women into coaching, at all levels, there will be more role models, thus increasing the number of women and girls being physically active.
Coaching has been proven to improve physical and mental well-being, and increase economic, individual and social development – for both coach and participant. And as research suggests, those who are coached are more likely to be physically active and lead healthier lifestyles.
Positioned at the start of a packed summer of elite women’s sport, which includes the Women’s Cricket and Rugby World Cups – taking place in the UK and Ireland – and the Women’s European Football and Hockey championships, Women’s Sport Week aims to celebrate the amazing achievements of female athletes, coaches and volunteers. As well as getting people to show their support for a summer of women’s sport by watching, listening, volunteering and taking part in sporting activities.

Reach is asking coaches, its partners and the wider public to share the video far and wide, so as many people as possible get to see women in coaching.
