Katie Deere: Swim Teacher at Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust

“I wanted to give back to our local community and share what being part of a swimming lifestyle did for me.”

What made you want to become a Swimming Teacher?
From a young age I swam for my local swimming club and swimming became a major passion for me.  It was a major part in my life for many years, I wanted to give back to our local community and share what being part of a swimming lifestyle did for me.

What have you enjoyed most about the project?
A major highlight for me was when I was doing my voluntary hours and seeing how the children looked up to their teacher, respected them and the happiness in the teachers face when the child had improved from their lessons.

What are your next steps?
The next steps for me will be to complete my Level 2 Swimming Teaching and Coaching to enable me to benefit my teaching skills within the current job and also to help me further my career.
